THOUGHTS

I woke from my sleep
A young woman fair
When I looked in the mirror
An old woman stood there

What happened to the young girl
Who used to live here
Her clothes are in my closet
They seem bigger I fear

My three young sons
Are  playing in the den
Oh my, who are these strangers
It looks like they are men

The young man that I married
Only a few years ago
Is coming through the door
But he’s moving kind of slow

His dark hair is now graying
His step is not as quick
But his eyes still shine and sparkle
And his  hair is wavy and thick

My goodness there’s a lot of noise
Outside in my front yard
I look and there’s small children
Playing very hard

Could it be that these young babes
Are children of my boys
It seems like only yesterday
They were playing with their toys

I guess I will enjoy these times
And try not to make a fuss
But the girl in me still wonders
When did life catch up with us?

IF ONLY FOR A MOMENT

If only for a moment
I could travel back in time
Chasing dreams of yesteryear
The dreams that once were mine

If only for a moment
To not think about the wrongs
But to dance around in rose buds
Seeking laughter in the songs

If only for a moment
I could peek inside my head
Speak only words of kindness
Take back some things I said

If only for a moment
I could be a little child
Running barefoot in the river
Lie in flowers growing wild

If only for a moment
I could rest in fields of snow
Make snowmen and snow angels
'Til the fire's afterglow

If only for a moment
I could hold the ones I love
Who have traveled that long journey
On the wings of a snow white dove

But I cannot relive days of youth
Or think about the sorrows
I can only live my life today
And hope for more tomorrows.

THINGS TO DO

Catch lightly falling rain on your tongue
Let snowflakes fall upon your hair
Run through wild flowers with your bare feet
Lie down in snowbanks and make snow angels
Smell the air when it rains and run between the raindrops
Listen for the giggle of a little child
